I invite you to read “A Theatrical Life Review: Fusing Movement and Text,” an article I recently posted on Substack. I was inspired by a course I’m taking on choreography offered online through the Julliard School extension program, Dance Choreography Essentials. The five-module curriculum has already provided valuable insights not only into the choreographic process but also into creativity and imagination more broadly.

I enrolled in the course to deepen my understanding of dance for a novel I’m writing that includes original dance performances based on my personal writing. As an unexpected bonus, a choreographic mindset is starting to influence how I’m organizing Arella’s Encore Act, my novel in progress. I’m also envisioning my fictional dance performances as dances choreographed and performed in the real world, beyond the storyworld I’ve created. Maybe such a leap from the page to the stage is really the encore act my novel is exploring. I’m imagining new possibilities.
